2018 Dacia Duster 4X4 Review; Great Affordable SUV
With integral Traction, the 2018 Dacia Duster 4X4 manages to go where others will not, with the advantage of being the cheapest of them all!
Dacia found the perfect formula for the Duster. He manages to be the cheap four-wheeled SUV and also one of the most competent when he walks off the road and ventures into the toughest paths. It is surprising the way the Dacia Duster is Desenvencilha of the most embarrassing situations.
Although the 4 × 2 version is the most sold, it is worth giving the 2500 euros of difference to the 4 × 4 because the advantages are enormous and not just about the best capabilities across the terrain. On the road, the best traction power is also an added value that we should not neglect, even if it penalizes a little consumption (not much). In short, we can have a well-behaved family car and an adventurous in leisure hours. The traction system used, in Auto mode, block in 2WD. At that time, the management takes care of the distribution of the binary when sensing any lack of traction, for example, when the floor is more slippery.
The mixed tires M + S and the great height to the ground make it fit to walk in the city with great dexterity, while suspension, with a high course, digests with great ease the most degraded floors, a characteristic that ultimately conveys a high degree of robustness. The worst is the control of the movements of the bodywork and the heavy steering, which settle in part when choosing the four-wheel traction mode. It is in this program that the Duster looms to seemingly more gifted competitors.
The simple total traction system and the exceptional angles of TT, with special emphasis on the angle of attack and exit, guarantee a good Trialeiro behavior. The power distribution for the two axes is smooth, while the possibility of switching off ESP ensures that the wheels continue to move, for example, at the crossing of the axles.
Another advantage of this version with four-wheel traction is the fact that the suspension is independent ahead and behind, instead of the twist shaft that characterized the other versions, a difference that ultimately optimises its off-road performance even further. It is also off-road that the motor 1.5 DCi 110 CV shows its gifts, mainly because the manual box has a staggering that exploits the capabilities of this small SUV on the most slippery floors (mud or sand, for example). The very short relationship of the first three speeds gives a super help! They only do not benefit from the consumption which, in the city, are penalized by this option. This is one of the reasons why we feel the engine too much in the passenger compartment, especially between 1500 and 2000 rpm.
Looking inward we check that this has a good space for five people and is well equipped but it has not yet reached a high construction quality. This is the price to pay for being so cheap. Even so, 2018 Dacia Duster 4X4 has improved, approaching more evolved competitors in this matter, which is also more expensive. The price is one of the great arguments of Dacia and the Duster is no exception. This explains in part the success that this model has had not only in Portugal as in the rest of Europe.
In this very few market segment are those that offer total traction and when they do it is with engines that greatly inflate the final price, which penalizes not only the costs of use as the “value for money”.
It is worth to give more 2500 euros for the integral traction version, which improves traction and is more comfortable since the rear suspension is independent. The quality has improved but there is a way to go until you reach the best, without sacrificing the price.
