2019 Maserati GranTurismo; Still A Beautiful Beast!
The 2019 Maserati GranTurismo? Is it still being built? Yes, this summer the 10-year-old car has even received a facelift. Our introduction to this is a hard confrontation with what downsizing does with emotion and with the price tag.
It is difficult to imagine the past, but Maserati must become the brand that is going to carry the electric torch for Fiat-Chrysler. CEO Marchionne announced earlier this year that both new and existing Maserati from 2019 are available with (partly) electric drive. What a contrast with the obsolete monster that we are on the way today! After all, the GranTurismo dates back to 2007 (!) and is once again facelifted this summer. The car has had such a revival several times. The introduction of both the new Quattroporte and the Ghibli ensured that people were lured to the showroom. Some saw for the first time the 2019 Maserati GranTurismo stand and bought him because of his looks and his sound. A facelift must strengthen that effect now the Levante, an SUV, there is. The nose of the coupé is somewhat tightly drawn and thus came in line with the front of the Ghibli.
The Engine remained unchanged: a 4.7-liter V8 without turbo. That has disadvantages, about which soon more. But it also has advantages, because the soundtrack of this device is so bizarrely wild, pure and blissful. Strikethrough is fine, but don’t even need to, because around 2,700 TPM there is already a resonance in the tone that moves your entire skeleton. Continue to the RPM limiter and the cry becomes downright divine.
The car is now available as a Sport and as MC. Technically, these versions are the same; They only have their own external characteristics and the cockpit atmosphere varies. The MC is also slightly lighter, because of the use of carbon body parts. The interior is old; Beautiful leather on the chairs cannot be floral that you look at obsolete counters and recognize buttons from older Peugeots and Lancia’s. The only innovation that has undergone the model is the multimedia system, which is now suitable for Apple Carplay and Android car. Maserati is proud of it, but Kia also delivers it on the Picanto.
2019 Maserati GranTurismo Road Test; MAESTRO
With 460 hp The car is reasonably fast, but no match for cars with a modern turbo block. You also have to make a lot of tours to speed it up. The whole machine is reasonable, but everything is said. A pity that the MC did not receive the Ferrari semi from the MC Stradae; It was very fast and spectacular. Anyway, we have to deal with the only atmospheric V8 that is still sold by a European brand. Only the insane sound of this makes a lot of good; When newer cars are looking far, on a single Ferrari 812 or Huracán performing after.
But does that make all right? No, that can no longer. Even though the basic design is timeless, certainly the back looks obsolete now. The car feels log on and would have trouble on a winding trail to keep a wave R. The worst, however, is that the Maserati is more expensive than ever. The old V8 is outrageously inefficient, with a CO2 emission of 337 g/km as a result. And because our BPM system is now based on CO2 emissions, the BPM on the 2019 Maserati GranTurismo alone is about €95,000. As a result, the price comes out on some €227,000. And that’s a ton too much for a car of this caliber. You buy for that money also a Mercedes SL 63 AMG, which is in qualitative terms a car of another planet. Want more emotion, consider for that money than prefer a Ferrari Portofino (from €240,000), which has cheerful 600 horsepower and will be much better. Or give half for a Jaguar F-type 400 Sport with V6, which with its 400 hp is just as fast, also produces a sublime sound and also drives better. Maserati has absolutely the gunfactor, because the magic around the mark is definitely not gone. But the new SUV Levante is now good for half the global sales of the brand. The beautiful 2019 Maserati GranTurismo will be bought by a single love fool yet new, but the times for this car as a new product are over. Let the Alfieri come.
