2020 DS3 Crossback: Platform, Redesign & Release Date
The DS department within PSA Group undoubtedly has no best day. The brand new 2020 DS3 Crossback has already appeared online in full glory!
In July, the patent plates of the brand 2020 DS3 Crossback leaked far too early on the digital channels and now we can view the first images from all angles thanks to a French forum.
While Citroën gives its SUV-like the addition ‘Aircross’, the luxury division of that French brand opts for the designation ‘Crossback’. The 4-cross back, the plastic trim version of the DS 4, was the first car of the brand that got the Crossback designation and since this year the DS 7 Crossback in the showrooms. Now is the moment that the DS 3 Crossback is digitally extended.
2020 DS3 Crossback Platform
The DS 3 Crossback is a compact crossover that in fact will operate in the same segment as a group member C3 Aircross. Although the DS 3 Crossback and the C3 Aircross are theoretically brothers, technically they are probably not quite right. It is expected that the DS 3 Crossback will be on the new CMP platform, a technical base that has been developed together with the Chinese Dongfeng and that will also serve as the basis for the Opel Corsa (F), which will be launched around 2020 market. The new Peugeot 208 will also use this base.
This new modular base is very suitable for the installation of electric powertrains and it is therefore very likely that an electric version of this DS 3 Crossback will appear. In fact, on one of these leaked photos we see the new compact French crossover already hanging on the plug! The name ‘E-Tense’ appears to be visible on the license plate, a name that DS had previously applied to an electrically charged study model. We are aiming at a range of about 300 kilometers. It is as yet unclear whether the DS 3 Crossback will act as the successor of the current DS 3.
2020 DS3 Crossback Debut
From the patent sketches that emerged from the DS 3 Crossback, it was already apparent that the new French high-legged one gets a quirky coach. We see a car with a remarkably designed B-pillar, a two-tone paint scheme and an interior that is, to put it mildly, an interior, an interior in which trapezoid shapes and displays determine the image. For the time being, we have to do with all known information, a definitive disclosure in which all information is released seems to be with the Paris Motor Show and this digital leak in mind is not far in the offing.
