2019 Mercedes S560e EQ Hybrid Sedan: Specs, Test Drive
At Mercedes, the S-Class has always been the technological showcase for alternative drives since 2009. In that year, the S 400 Hybrid was launched, a limousine with an electric motor of 15 kW, which however was not able to drive the car alone. A gap that Mercedes immediately managed to solve with the second generation of its hybrid top-class store.
The German manufacturer did this with its first rechargeable hybrid system, which he launched in 2014 under the hood of the S 500 Plug-in Hybrid: an 85 kW electric motor in combination with a 6-cylinder on petrol of 333 hp and a battery of 8.7 kWh, which together guaranteed a pure electric driving range of 33 kilometers according to the NEDC standard. With the 2019 Mercedes S560e, Mercedes is now using the third generation of its hybrid technology.
2019 Mercedes S560e Engine Specs
The hybrid powertrain of the 2019 Mercedes S560e combines a V6 petrol engine with 367 hp (from 5,500 to 6,000 o / m) and 500 Nm (from 1,800 to 4,500 o/m) on a 90 kW electric machine. Just like in the C 300 and the E 300, the latter draws its energy from a 13.5 kWh battery, assembled by Deutsche Accumotive, a subsidiary of the Daimler group. When both engines combine their forces, they develop a cumulative power of 476 hp and a limited torque of 700 Nm.
The Eco Assist can, depending on the needs, switch on the freewheel mode or – on the contrary – increase the energy recovery during braking. To this end, he interprets and processes the data of navigation, traffic sign recognition and classic assistance systems. In practice this proved to work very well.
As you can imagine, this top-class saloon delivers high-quality performance. In this way he pulls a sprint from 0 to 100 in 5 seconds and he gets a top speed of 250 km/h. Nevertheless, it is mainly with its sovereign comfort that the 2019 Mercedes S560e wants to make its mark.
